Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Can you watch it online for free?

The eighth episode of the saga opened across cinemas in the UK on Thursday December 14.

Despite mixed reviews and instances of fan backlash, the film opened worldwide to an incredible £336million ($450million).

Since opening at the box office, hundreds of sites claiming to host streams and torrents of the film have popped up, but a security expert has warned not to trust them.

Graham Culley, an independent security analyst, told Express.co.uk that these so-called Star Wars streams could be a backdoor for dangerous viruses and other malware.

He said: “Generally I would advise people to be cautious.

“We have seen scammers and criminals use the temptation of a hot new movie in the past to drive traffic to websites which might be designed to infect your computer with adware or spyware.

“Of course, there may be non-malicious sites out there as well. They’re probably hoping to generate income through advertising.

“However, if you’re really such a Star Wars fan why wouldn’t you be prepared to enjoy the experience of watching the movie on the big screen surrounded by fellow fanatics?”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi follows hot on the heels of JJ Abrams’ Star Wars The Force Awakens, and picks up exactly where the last film ended.

The second installment in the new Star Wars trilogy kicks off Princess Leia and her ragtag group of Resistance rebels standing off against the evil Galactic Empitre.

Directed by Rian Jonhson, the film saw Star Wars legends Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher reprise their iconic roles of Luke and Leia Skywalker.

According to Daily Express film critic Allan Hunter, .

He wrote: “There is a great deal going on in The Last Jedi and the way it splits off the main characters into separate but intertwined stories makes for a long, over-plotted film that even starts to drag a little in the middle.

“But when all those elements come together for a rip-roaring, heart-in-the-mouth final showdown, you realise that it has all been worthwhile and has been heading towards a greater purpose.”

Fans enticed by the positive reviews were tempted to find the film online, but in doing so would have been in breach of the law.

The Digital Economy Act of 2017, enacted in April, stipulates that online users unlawfully downloading copyrighted material could face massive fines and potentially jail sentences.

Star Wars fanatics who would rather not risk breaking the law, are only left with two options. They can either see the film in cinemas or wait for its official DVD and digital release.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is expected to be released on DVD as well as Amazon Video and iTunes in March 2018, but the date is yet to be confirmed.

Based on The Force Awakens’ digital release, the film could also potentially arrive on iTunes and Google Play in April.
