Star Wars secret cameos: Celebrities you didn’t realise were in The Last Jedi

A wide range of famous faces were gifted with small parts in Episode 8, which arrived last week courtesy of writer/director Rian Johnson.

The movie stars Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Daisy Ridley as Rey, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, John Boyega as Finn, Carrie Fisher as General Leia and many more.

But did you spot all of these big names in there as well? Mild spoilers ahead.

Michaela Coel

The Chewing Gum genius, on the left in the photo above, has a very brief appearance in The Last Jedi, muttering only a few words.

“I’m so serious. It’s literally, I [sit] on the spaceship and I say three words,” she revealed earlier this year. Those words are “they found us”, as the Resistance realises the First Order has been able to track them.

Carrie Fisher’s famous dog Gary is on Canto Bight – playing Space Gary.

Hugh Skinner

He’s in Fleabag, The Windsors and Poldark – and Hugh Skinner also appears alongside Laura Dern’s Vice Admiral Holdo as her First Officer. Look out for him as the young Colin Firth in the Mamma Mia! sequel next.

Ellie Goulding

The British singer-songwriter makes a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance with the Resistance.

She tweeted: “Has anybody seen Star Wars yet and seen someone who resembles me in it… awkward if I got cut. Haha.

“Either way it was a really awesome experience. Great to be in the rebel army for a day.”

Gareth EdwardsGETTY

Gareth Edwards directed Rogue One

James Corden

It’s not actually confirmed whether or not the British star turned US chatshow host is in the film, but Twitter users have been posting about seeing him in an X-Wing at the very start before being blown up.

Gareth Edwards

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Edwards returned the favour, after Rian Johnson was briefly seen in his film last year. Edwards plays a soldier on Crait – he’s the one who licks the white ground and calls it “salty”.

Edgar and Oscar Wright

The directors are hard to see: Edgar allegedly appears behind Poe Dameron on Crait in soft focus, while Oscar is said to also be among the extras.

Kate DickieGETTY

Kate Dickie, from Game of Thrones, is in Last Jedi

Kate Dickie

The Game of Thrones star – who plays Sansa’s aunt Lyssa – showed up in the opening moments of the film on board the First Order ship.

Justin Theroux and Lily Cole

Theroux was the Master Codebreaker with the red lapel that Finn and Rose were looking for on Canto Bight, while Cole was by his side in an unamed role.

Prince William, Prince Harry, Tom Hardy and Gary Barlow

These four were all thought to be stormtroopers, and it was claimed at one point that they were responsible for escorting Finn when he and Rose were captured. John Boyega later said they were cut out of the film, although reps later appeared to say that he was only joking.

Gary BarlowGETTY

Did Gary Barlow keep his role?

Joseph Gordon LevittGETTY

Joseph Gordon-Levitt always works with Rian Johnson

Noah Segan

He’s appeared in all of Rian Johnson’s films, and Segan was an X-Wing pilot here. He ultimately died during Kylo Ren’s air attack, after being seen on Leia’s Resistance ship earlier on.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Having also worked with Johnson many times before, Gordon-Levitt’s cameo was well-known before the film’s release. He played the creature Slowen Lo on Canto Bight, the chap who was furious at Rose and Finn for parking their cruiser on the beach.
