‘Crumbling by the minute, in front of our eyes’ Merkel torn apart in hilarious comedy skit

The German chancellor was mocked as she struggles to form a Government after the Social Democrats (SPD) agreed to hold talks with Merkel’s Christian Democrats (CDU).

, who is seeking to form a coalition to avoid another general election, was torn apart by host Oliver Welke.

Speaking on Heute Show, the presenter said: “Well, of course, some sort of government should be formed soon, and ‘quickly’, as our provisional Chancellor said.

“’Quickly’ she said. What does ‘quick’ mean?”

A clip of Mrs Merkel then popped up as she said: “I don’t want to quantify now what ‘quickly’ means… people get the impression that things are done in hyper-speed over here.”

The host then continued to tear into the Chancellor for her remarks.

He said: “No, no… Well, you can say a lot about us Germans: two world wars, Helene Fischer, but ‘hyper-speed’?

“We really don’t do things in ‘hyper-speed’.

“The world is waiting for us… constantly some despairing heads of states are calling the Chancellery. But only Merkel’s old answering machine answers.”

A clip then overlapped the host with a fake voice of Mrs Merkel saying that she would “be busy with soundings until approximately May 2019”.

The fake voice added: “For urgent matters please contact Jean-Claude Juncker or Joachim Löw. Toodles!”

The host then began to mock the French President Emmanuel Macron, before he returned to joking about Mrs Merkel.

He said: “Yep… Macron leaves messages every day. ‘Angela ‘elp me!’

“But, completely different question, is Merkel still in control of her CDU?

“After all the authority of the Chancellor is currently crumbling by the minute, in front of our eyes. I’m not exaggerating.”

A fake award then appeared on the screen, to which the host said: “here is the dumbass-award we wanted to give her originally”. Welke then slowly blew at the award, before it crumbled on the screen.

The presenter finished with one last joke at Mrs Merkel as he asked what her “big goals” were for the coming year. A clip of the Chancellor popped up with her saying: “eat, drink, sleep, brush teeth”.
