Chelsea to beat Arsenal and Liverpool to Thomas Lemar with player-plus-cash offer

Both Arsenal and Liverpool were close to signing the winger in the summer but a deal failed to materialise.

The Gunners in fact had a £90m offer agreed in the closing stages of the last transfer window, but Alexis Sanchez’s failure to join Manchester City meant a move for Lemar was never able to be completed.

Liverpool also were said to have had two bids knocked back for Lemar with reports this week suggesting Jurgen Klopp hasn’t given up hope of signing Lemar as a possible replacement for Philippe Coutinho

But Chelsea look set to jump ahead of their Premier League rivals by offering Batshuayi which would see Lemar move in the opposite direction.

That’s according to the Mirror, who claim Michy Batshuayi could be sent to the Ligue 1 club on loan.

Former Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo is said to be behind the deal, who is now working at Monaco.

Antonio Conte is desperate to strengthen his squad next month, having constantly criticised his club’s transfer business in the summer.

Batshuayi has struggled for game time under the Italian coach and was left out of the starting line-up in Chelsea’s last match against Huddersfield, despite Alvaro Morata missing through injury.

The Belgium international has started just two Premier League games this season, but has enjoyed a fantastic goals-to-minutes ratio.

He is currently averaging one goal every 67 minutes throughout all competitions, but he seems surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
