Star Wars Episode 8 has finally made it on to the big screen.
While most fans are still waiting desperately to see it, some of the Star Wars legends have given their opinions on The Last Jedi.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s production designer Rick Heinrichs, has revealed what “cranky” Lucas thought when he toured the production at London’s Pinewood Studios.
Heinrichs admitted they had been trying to honour the Star Wars creator with their work but he was not impressed.
Heinrich told The Hollywood Reporter that Rian Johnson’s original vision for the movie script was extremely ambitious and required an unprecedented number of sets.
He said: “The original script had about 160 sets in it, a ridiculous amount of sets. I didn’t say that to Rian, because I figured on something this big he’ll find that out on his own.
“It’s a 100-day shooting schedule, so there’s more than one set a day you have to prepare for.”
Lucas took no time in seeing the problems when he visited.

The final shoot used an impressive total of 125 sets spread across 14 stages at the UK studios.
Heinrich added: “We went into Star Wars saying we’re going to do matte paintings and we’re going to be hanging miniatures. That’s the way we’re going to do this cause that’s what George would want. And of course George visited and he’s like, ‘Why are you building all these sets?’”

Lucas was not impressed with the loving homage to his classic techniques, simply seeing the time wasted when technology was now available.
Heinrich said: “He’s a cranky guy but his point is that for the big stuff, obviously planets, spaceships flying, when you’re not close enough to see actors in it, there isn’t much point anymore in actually building something.”
Of course, many fans were less than impressed with the excessive CGI in Lucas’ own prequel trilogy…
