New York police and fire services rushed to the scene after reports of an explosion at Port Authority in Manhattan. 

The New York Police Department tweeted they had been called to “reports of an explosion of unknown origin at 42nd Street and 8th Ave.”

Captured by a New York resident linked by Twitter, the scene in Manhattan can be seen as the emergency services deal with the incident. 

Dozens of emergency vehicles can be seen lining the streets as the police descended on the Subway network. 

Unconfirmed reports on ABC news, citing a New York Police Department source, said the explosion may have been caused by a pipe bomb.

It was claimed that the bomb was detonated in a passageway below the ground at the bus terminal. 

The Port Authority is a major transport hub in the city where trains and buses operate from.

The NYPD later Tweeted: “Update regarding explosion at 42nd St and 8th Ave, in subway: One male suspect is in custody. No injuries other than suspect at this time. Avoid the area. Subways bypassing #PortAuthority and Times Square Stations. Info is preliminary.

NYPD tweeted: “The NYPD is responding to reports of an explosion of unknown origin at 42nd Street and 8th Ave, #Manhattan. 

“The A, C and E line are being evacuated at this time. Info is preliminary, more when available.”

Bystanders said that there was a “stampede” as they were evacuated from the area.

One woman wrote: “Just was stuck in a running stampede at port authority bus terminal due to bomb scare. 

“Cops EVERYWHERE.”

President Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation.
