Liverpool news: Sky Sports pundit Balague makes major Philippe Coutinho transfer claim

That is according to Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague.

Coutinho’s future remains in doubt with Barcelona retaining a considerable interest in the Brazilian playmaker after being left frustrated in the summer.

Barcelona had three bids for the 25-year-old rejected by Liverpool and Coutinho’s transfer request was turned down by the club.

Coutinho fuelled the transfer speculation last week when he refused to commit his future to Anfield and Balague says that Liverpool’s reluctance to sell the 25-year-old will be their stance in January.

But the La Liga expert believes the situation could change next year.

When asked if Coutinho will join Barcelona in January, Balague wrote in his Sky Sports column: “Liverpool’s stance is the same, meaning right now they don’t want to negotiate with Barcelona.

“They are not sitting down with Barcelona and are not setting a price for him.

“In the summer, it will be a different story, but they have no intention of selling him right now.”

Last week Liverpool CEO Peter Moore said he could not guarantee Coutinho would remain at the club.

“We made one statement last year and the player is not for sale and that is the statement the ownership made,” Moore told Sky Sports.

“Me adding to that, every day you see stories emanating from Spain that Barcelona, or whomever, are coming back for Philippe Coutinho.

“I saw a player who was delighted to score a hat-trick for his club in front of 54,000 delighted fans on Wednesday night. And anything other than that focus right now is on Sunday and then we have West Brom, and it is all about Philippe on the pitch right now.

“As far as I am concerned, the squad we have right now is the squad we are going to go into January with. And I do not have a crystal ball, so I do not know what is going to happen. But Philippe Coutinho is a dedicated, intense Liverpool player right now that is delivering.”
