Swell: If an English team doesn’t win the Champions League this season… they shouldn’t be allowed to compete next season!

Ben: Juventus vs Tottenham is intriguing because both sides are excellent at changing between systems. Could be an intriguing tactical contest.

RM: Man City getting an easy ride into the next round. Tottenham will struggle. Chelsea v Barcelona ‘Torrrreessssss’. PSG v Real Madrid though. Hope Ramos breaks Neymar into hundreds a tiny wee pieces.

THE RUN FROM HELL

12:10: I don’t want to pile the misery on Chelsea supporters, but have you seen their fixtures?!

Sandwiched between their two Champions League ties with Barcelona, they are playing Manchester United at Old Trafford and Manchester City at the Etihad…

Good luck with that…

EUROPA LEAGUE DRAW

12:06: The Europa League draw is underway folks. This is when the Arsenal fans think it’s safe to come out the woodwork. I’ll let you know who the Gunners get in the last 32. Fingers crossed it’s Celtic!

12:05: Barcelona have progressed from six of their last seven Champions League knockout ties against English opposition – the exception was against Chelsea in the semi-final in 2011/12.

ODDS, ODDS, ODDS…

12:05: Manchester City have been installed as 11/4 favourites after their favourable draw, not to mention PSG vs Real Madrid.

Bayern Munich are now second-favourites at 5/1 after being drawn against Besiktas.

PSG 5/1, Barcelona 7/1, Real Madrid 7/1, Manchester United 14/1, Liverpool 16/1, Juventus 20/1, Chelsea 25/1, Tottenham 25/1.

12:00: Barcelona in with the early bantz on social media. “We’ve had some great times at Stamford Bridge, haven’t we, Andres Iniesta?”

TORRESSSSSSSSSSSSS…

11:50: The first legs take place on February 13-14 and February 20-21 with the returns on March 6-7 and March 13-14.

SUMMARY

11:45: Chelsea were handed the toughest test in the draw for the last 16 of the Champions League as they were paired with five-times European champions Barcelona.

Having finished second in their group behind Roma, Antonio Conte’s men were hoping for a potential tie against Besiktas but instead came out against Lionel Messi’s band of superstars.

Tottenham were also handed a questionable reward for finishing ahead of Real Madrid in their qualifying group as they were paired with last year’s runners-up Juventus.

But Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool will be relatively content after being paired with Basel, Sevilla and Porto respectively.

The remaining three ties pit Real Madrid against Paris St Germain, Shakhtar Donetsk with Roma, and Bayern Munich against Besiktas.

Aidan: Liverpool vs Porto. I’ll take that. A difficult side but a good draw nonetheless. Roll on the last 16.

Gareth: Extremely generous draw against Sevilla. Won’t be easy, but should be doable.

Henry: Tough for Chelsea, tricky for Spurs, but decent draws for United, City and Liverpool.

11:30: Pep Guardiola’s going to be a happy man having drawn Basel. Saying that, many a Premier League side have come unstuck at St. Jakob-Park. Manchester United were the most recent victims…

11:25: It should be mentioned that everyone is technically a winner because of the draw between Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain.

The defending champions or the tournament favourites will be tumbling out before the quarter-final stage. Result!

11:22: Chelsea have faced Barcelona six times in the Champions League knockout stages; only Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have met on more occasions (8).

11:20: Ouch! The numbers didn’t lie folks. Chelsea have been handed the toughest draw out of all the English clubs. Barcelona with the second-leg at the Nou Camp.

11:15: OK, banter (not that there was much) over, and now it’s time for the draw! The Terminator has left the building btw…

11:12: Who the hell is this guy?! A third UEFA suit has arrived to conduct the draw, because clearly the two blokes before him weren’t capable of such responsibility.

Makes the Terminator look like Little Red Riding Hood this guy…

11:10: Xabi Alonso is in the building! He’s talking about that night in Istanbul. The former Liverpool midfielder will be doing the balls.

11:09: Montage number two has begun…

11:08: The handsome UEFA gentleman is now gone and UEFA competitions director Giorgio Marchetti has arrived. He’s going through the rules and other boring things you won’t care about. I wonder what he does the other nine months of the year?!

11:05: Just a four-minute opening montage there. I remember when they lasted a solid three days!

THE DRAW BEGINS…

11:00: All the suits have taken their seats and some handsome UEFA gentleman is welcoming everyone to the draw.

The camera just panned around the audience and I promise they caught a bloke napping in the cheap seats.

The first montage begins…

10:55: Not log to wait now folks. Owen Hargreaves, Jermaine Jenas and Michael Owen (the three banterless amigos) are busy speculating in the BT Sport studio.

Owen was extremely bullish about Liverpool’s chances of winning the entire competition, saying that ‘miracles’ happen at Anfield on European nights. What else would you expect?!

Ahmed: Chelsea are gonna face Barcelona and we will get knocked out and then this would be Conte’s last season. The cycle of being a Chelsea fan…

Callum: Ideal draw is Basel or Porto, but there are no easy ties in the Champions League knockout, and I look forward to Liverpool getting drawn against Real Madrid!

Ryan: Avoid Real Madrid, and I’ll be happy. Obviously prefer Manchester United to get Porto, Sevilla or Shakhtar Donetsk but wouldn’t be too worried if we got Bayern Munich or Juventus.

SPEAKING OF ARSENAL

10:50: The draw for the last 32 of the Europa League will be conducted at 12pm.

Arsenal, the only remaining English team in the competition, could face Scottish champions Celtic.

Arsene Wenger’s men will be seeded after finishing as one of 12 group winners and will therefore avoid the likes of AC Milan, Villarreal and Zenit St Petersburg.

They will also be kept away from CSKA Moscow, Atletico Madrid, RB Leipzig and Sporting Lisbon, the four best third-placed teams in the Champions League group stages.

Because Celtic won only won one Champions League game, they join Napoli, Spartak Moscow and Borussia Dortmund as the unseeded teams.

SPARE A THOUGHT FOR BAYERN…

10:45: Please spare a thought for Bayern Munich, who are devastated to hear they can’t be drawn against Arsenal this year.

KANE: WE DON’T FEAR ANYONE!

10:40: Of course you don’t, Harry.

Kane and Mauricio Pochettino have both declared that Tottenham want to play the best teams the Champions League has to offer.

Bayern Munich, Juventus, Sevilla, Porto, Basel and Shakhtar Donetsk are the teams who can be drawn with Spurs.

“When we have been in the group we have been in with Real Madrid and Dortmund and we have done as well as we have, I know people say it a lot that we don’t fear anyone, but to go far in the Champions League you are going to have to play the best teams in Europe so we will see who we get,” he said.

“It will be exciting and then we will go from there and see how far we can go in the competition.

“I think the first thought was to try and get through and to finish on the most points out of everyone in the whole of the group stage was pretty impressive and that’s the kind of form we have to show in every game.”

THE MATHS…

10:30: Don’t worry, I haven’t turned into a mathematical genius overnight.

But somebody on Twitter has.

The maths boffin (said with love) has calculated the numbers and made a table with the percentage likelihood of the draw.

As you can see, Chelsea have a 41.26% chance of being drawn against Barcelona, while Liverpool have a greater chance of playing Real Madrid or Juventus.

CHELSEA TOUGH TEST

10:20: I suppose the draw is a little less exciting from a Chelsea perspective.

Paris St-Germain, Barcelona and Besiktas are their only possible opponents when the draw is made at 11am.

The Blues finished second behind Roma in their group and along with the Serie A side, they are also ineligible to face their Premier League rivals.

MORNING

10:15: Hello folks, welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Champions League last 16 draw.

The five English clubs who created history by qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages are about to learn their fate.

Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea all qualified from their respective groups, making England the first country to have five teams in the competition’s last 16.

So, congratulations to us!
