Fans have been hoping for a big Final Fantasy 7 Remake release update this month.
With both The Game Awards 2017 and the PlayStation Experience 2017 confirming they had announcement to make, gamers were hoping for something from Square Enix.
However, both events appear to have held no new Final Fantasy 7 Remake news.
This means that fans will be waiting until 2018 for something big to be revealed for the Final Fantasy series.
And according to Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto, there’s plenty being planned for next year.
“Next year will be the 31st year, and our teams are busy working on new titles,” Hashimoto told Edamame Arcade Channel.
“They are all gearing up for a big year next year. Next year is going to be a big year.”
Hashimoto added, “Next year will be a big one, and we will bring exciting, new Final Fantasy titles to the world.”
There are of course other FF projects in the works that could be the new games being commented on by Hashimoto.
Both Dissidia Final Fantasy NT and Final Fantasy 15 Pocket Edition have been confirmed, although fans will be hoping for bigger announcements.
The latest Square Enix earnings call also had a few interesting hints apparently attached for Final Fantasy fans.
Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda told investors that the company would be making release date announcements between April 2018 and E3 2018 in June.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 weren’t mentioned by name, but they are easily the company’s biggest new releases.
Square Enix have provided an update on the future of the Tomb Raider games series.
The company have confirmed that a third game is being worked on as part of the new rebooted series.
This unfortunately didn’t extend to much more than the confirmation that something is in the works.
No word on a working title, release date, or what platform it will launch on were given.
Square Enix say they’re taking a new approach when it comes to announcing project, confirming that more news would be shared in 2018.
“A new Tomb Raider game is coming,” the Twitter message reads.
“Driven by our goal of putting our fans first, we want you to know that it won’t be very long between the official reveal and when you can play,”
“Our journey together will begin with a major event in 2018. We simply can’t wait to take you on Lara Croft’s defining adventure.”
There’s been a recent stream of reports and rumours concerning the unannounced game.
The first leak came in late 2016, with the name “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” being seen by a commuter in Montreal.
This was later verified by other media sources, while Eidos Montreal was established to be the development group heading up the new project.
Another leak came a few months ago, with key art and logos from Shadow of the Tomb Raider appearing online.
While the new art was taken down, it seemed to suggest that Lara Croft would be heading to Central America for her next adventure.
However, while the art looked legitimate, there hasn’t been any official comment and should therefore be taken with a grain of salt.
