That is according to Championship pundit Chris Iwelumo, who believes Wiedwald cannot use an “awkward bounce” as an excuse for QPR’s freak goal in Leeds’ 3-1 win at Elland Road.
The Whites were leading 2-0 with only injury time left to play when he misjudged Rs full-back Pawel Wszolek’s speculative punt into the box.
“I feel for him,” Iwelumo said on Football on 5: The Championship. “I think it is another [howler].
“I don’t really know what he’s thinking. I think he wants to come out and claim it.
“It’s not a bad bounce, it’s not an awkward bounce – he’s just judged it wrong.
“It puts pressure on his team. As a defence, you want to look behind you and be confident in everything he does.
“It was a sloppy one but they saw it out.”
Wiedwald redeemed himself moments after his blunder, pulling off a stop from substitute Idrissa Sylla before Kemar Roofe grabbed his third goal of the game to seal the points.
The 27-year-old sent a message to Leeds fans after the final whistle at Loftus Road.
“I am really happy that I could help the team after my big mistake,” he said on Instagram.
“Thank you so much for the great support.”
