Arsenal news: Gunners should sell Alexis Sanchez – Patrick Vieira reveals why

That is according to Invincibles captain Patrick Vieira.

Sanchez is out of the contract at the end of the season after refusing to sign a new deal with the Gunners.

Arsenal have been trying to tie down Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to the club for nearly 18 months but have been met with resistance.

And they are now facing the prospect of losing the pair for free next summer along with the likes of Jack Wilshere.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been adamant Sanchez and Ozil’s commitment should not be questioned despite their situation.

But Vieira, who won six trophies with Arsenal, believes that if a player wants to leave, he should be let go.

He told Copa 90: “When a player wants to leave a football club, I think they should let him go.

“When a player doesn’t want to stay at a football club any more, he’s never going to give 100 per cent and he is never going to give you his best.

“And I believe when a player wants to leave the club, you should let him go because there is no player bigger than the club.”

Earlier this week, Wenger claimed there were positives in Sanchez and Ozil’s situation.

“When you pick a team you do not necessarily look how long a contract is,” said Wenger.

“The shorter the contract is, the more hungry the players are usually. The hunger index drops with the length of the contract.”
