James Bond: Sir David Jason – ‘I would love to be the next Q’

Even Daniel Craig’s gritty James Bond needs some comic relief every now and then and that’s exactly what MI6’s Quartermaster brings.

He was missing from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, but Ben Whishaw took the role for Skyfall and Spectre, following in the footsteps of Llewelyn and Cleese.

With just one more film to go for Daniel Craig, it’s possible that Whishaw will also hang up in his lab coat with him.

Now Sir David Jason, promoting his new autobiography on This Morning, has revealed his desire for the role.

Yesterday Philip Schofield suggested to Sir David that he’d like one last big role.

The presenter asked: “You say that you want…that you’d love another big role, that you’d like maybe Q in Bond?

Sir David replied: “Ha! No you’re quite right it’s never over. What happens is an actor never stops working. It’s just the work stops happening for the actor.

“So if there’s a big role out there? Yeah. Q or M would go down very nicely, if you’re out there watching, Broccoli…”

Speaking at the Women in IT Awards in London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, Sir Alex – known as C, not M – revealed the news as part of an MI6 diversity drive in an effort to attract more female recruits.

He said: “The real-life Q is looking forward to meeting you and I’m pleased to report that the real-life Q is a woman.”
