Steven Spielberg: ‘Kathleen Kennedy gave me the B******ING of my life on E.T. set’

He’s probably the most famous film director in the world and the 70-year-old has revealed a run-in he had with current Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

Back in 1981, fresh off Raiders of the Lost Ark, Spielberg was shooting E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

In a new interview for his latest movie, The Post, the filmmaker explained how he used to be unpleasant on set and how his producer took him aside to tell him off.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “Basically, I was a little bit of a hothead, impatient, and I would be hard on my crew — loving to my cast but tough on my crew.”

Spielberg continued: “And about 15 days into shooting E.T., she pulled me into her office and sat me down in a chair and gave me the b******ing of my life, because she did not like the way I was talking to the crew.

“She didn’t care for my impatience, she didn’t care for my sharpness.

“She said, ‘This is unacceptable behaviour,’ and I hadn’t heard that since a teacher in school or my own mom — and that was a big shift in my life.

“I became mindful because somebody I trusted and respected had called me out.”

The scene saw Ford shot from behind playing Elliot’s school principal, confronting him following the frog and kissing incident.

The Post is released in UK cinemas on January 19, 2018.
