Conor McGregor’s Bellator 187 antics cost him a fight at UFC 219 – Dana White

The UFC’s lightweight champion stole the show at Bellator’s latest event in Ireland with some outrageous behaviour.

The Notorious stormed the cage during Charlie Ward’s middleweight bout with John Redmond to celebrate with his Straight Blast Gym Ireland team-mate.

McGregor did so under the assumption that Ward had ended the fight, which hadn’t been waved off.

Referee Marc Goddard attempted to direct McGregor out of the cage and .

McGregor was ejected from the cage but tried to regain access moments later, which he failed to do thanks to a Bellator official’s actions.

A few days after the event, the president of the Association of Boxing Commission, Mike Mazzulli, claimed that McGregor’s antics had cost him a fight at  219, a notion his management vehemently denied.

But according to White, McGregor’s actions did result in him being removed from the promotion’s end-of-year show.

“Yeah, you know, it was obviously that and he was a little rambunctious at our event too out in Poland,” White said during an appearance on The Jim Rome Show.

“You’ve been in this game for a long time, Rome, you know. You see these guys, they’re young, they become super famous. And you get $100m in the bank… it’s hard to keep guys on the tracks.”

McGregor’s last outing in the Octagon took place in November 2016 and saw him .

Ireland’s first UFC belt holder hasn’t shown any desire to return to mixed martial arts, a fact which has led many to question his eagerness to defend his lightweight crown.

White is in regular contact with McGregor and is adamant he still wants to fight.

“It’s one of those things I question daily. When I talk to Conor, Conor still has that fire,” he added.

“(He says) ‘I want to do this, I want to do that.’ Yet at the same time, he’s all over the place.

“There’s a level of uncertainty in any business. Like I said, when we sold the company, I had lawyers, a matchmaker and other guys who made a lot of money and decided to never work again. So who knows.”
