F1 news: Ross Brawn reveals plans for three new big-name manufacturers

Formula One is going through a transformation under its new American owners, starting in earnest from next season.

The sport has been rebranded with a new logo and features such as the Halo safety device and Pirelli’s new two-stop race tyres will come into effect.

Alfa Romeo are also returning to the sport in partnership with Sauber, however, F1 director Ross Brawn has admitted he wants more manufacturers involved.

And he has revealed he will be targeting Porsche, Aston Martin and Lamborghini over the forthcoming seasons.

“There are several premium manufacturers that I would like in Formula 1,” he said.

“Porsche is one of them. But also Aston Martin and Lamborghini.”

The high cost of developing an engine from the ground up while also conforming to F1’s strict regulations has been a barrier to new manufacturers in the past.

However, Brawn has admitted he is working to make it “cheaper and easier” for brands to enter into the sport.

“I guarantee you, with today’s power unit, no manufacturer is interested in getting started,” he added.

“That’s why we have to make it cheaper and easier.

“That’s why we need to create an environment that’s attractive to them.”
