Man Utd news: How Zlatan Ibrahimovic could help boost chances of signing Mauro Icardi

Mourinho currently has Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic at his disposal to play down the middle while Marcus Rashford is also capable of playing that role.

Lukaku has struggled of late, scoring just once in his last 11 games, but has still managed 12 goals in 20 games overall.

Ibrahimovic was arguably the main reason United were able to lift any silverware last season with his goals proving vital in Mourinho’s debut campaign at Old Trafford.

And Rashford is a young talent that has continued to improve since making his debut almost two years ago.

But Ibrahimovic’s ageing years and current fitness levels puts a question mark on how long his stay in England will be.

The Swede reportedly turned down the chance to sign for LA Galaxy in the summer but El Gol Digital claim there is still an offer on the table for him to move to the MLS.

And having Ibrahimovic off the wage bill would enable United to offer up to £105million to sign Icardi from Inter.

The Argentine has been in sensational form in Serie A this campaign, scoring 15 goals in just 14 matches.

He was a part of the Barcelona youth set-up before joining Sampdoria permanently in 2011 and has proven to be one of Europe’s most clinical finishers in the past few seasons.
