EE’s iPhone lookalike offers big features on a budget

EE is releasing another own-brand smartphone which has one major advantage over some of its flagship rivals.

With an all-glass finish the new Hawk may have taken some of its styling from the new iPhone and Google Pixel, but it also offers superfast 4G+ technology on a budget.

Tucked under the hood of the EE Hawk is the latest CAT 6 capability which can support 4G+ download speeds.

This means EE’s budget device can reach actual speeds 238Mbps and a theoretical maximum of 300Mbps – at this high rate a movie download would take a matter of minutes.

Along with blistering speeds the Hawk also features a 5-inch 1280 x 720 HD display, 13 megapixel rear-facing and 8 megapixel front-facing cameras.

A fingerprint scanner is included on the rear of the device for fast authentication, as well as NFC functionality to enable users to make mobile payments quickly and securely via Android Pay.

Poweing the Hawk is a 1.5GHz Mediatek 6750 64-Bit Octacore processor and 2GB of RAM plus it comes with 16 GB of internal memory, with the option of additional storage via a Micro SD card.

EE says its 2,500mAh battery will bring 10 hours of continuous play with the phone likely to survive most of the day with average usage.

Speaking about the Hawk, Sharon Meadows, Director of Devices from EE said: “We’ve built the most advanced mobile network in the UK and we want as many people as possible to enjoy the benefits.

“The Hawk gives customers superfast 4G+ speeds, 4G Calling and WiFi Calling, plus a range of features typically associated with flagship smartphones – all at a fraction of the price.

“We believe this latest addition to our EE-branded range offers one of the best value smartphone experiences available today – reinforcing our position as the number one for the latest handsets.”

Along with its 4G+ speeds one of the other main selling points of the EE Hawk appears to be its price.

EE says the device is available from tomorrow, December 1, for just £149.99 on EE pay-as-you-go (with a £10 top-up), and from £14.99 on a 24-month pay monthly plan.

Every Hawk from EE also comes with a free pair of high-performance JBL headphones, with JBL Signature Sound, perfect for streaming immersive audio on the move.

Finally, with EE, all pay monthly mobile customers also benefit from the following extras including free Apple Music for six months, Free three months access to BT Sport and data caps so you’ll never spend more without knowing about it.
