Xbox One X 4K games update: Bethesda release Fallout 4 and Skyrim: Special Edition patches

Bethesda Games Studios confirmed earlier this month that they would be releasing new support for both Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition.

And it’s now been confirmed that Xbox One X games fans can now download the latest patches for both.

And it’s a big one, weighing in at around 17GB for anyone who wants to download the upgraded assets for Fallout 4.

This includes 4K resolution support for both titles, although Fallout 4 fans might be more interested in some of the other spec boosts.

Fallout 4 now includes dynamic resolution, enhanced draw distance for trees, grass, objects and NPCs, as well as enhanced God Ray effects.

The draw distances will be one of the standout additions to a game, which supports such a large map and explorable area.

Skyrim Special Edition on Xbox One X will benefit from new 4K Resolution support, and dynamic resolution.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus has already been patched, along with popular MMO, the Elder Scrolls Online, Dishonored 2, and horror adventure, The Evil Within 2.

“The launch of a new gaming console can sometimes feel bittersweet,” a message from Bethesda reads.

“There’s all of the excitement over new features and horsepower, but you’re often left with a farewell to a previous generation console and playing through some of your favorite games. That’s not the case with the upcoming release of the Xbox One X console.

“The X is the most powerful Xbox console to date, continuing to build upon the incredible features – and more importantly, game library – of the Xbox One.”

It should also be noted that some of Bethesda’s existing Xbox One Backwards Compatibility games have also seen boosts, including Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

For those interested in finding out what could be launching next, the official Microsoft website shows all the currently confirmed games getting the upgrade treatment, with over 81 titles already available.

And Bethesda weren’t the only developer to release new Xbox One X support today, with Fortnite: Battle Royale also seeing a patch launch.

The full Fortnite patch notes confirm that the game now supports 4K resolution on the Microsoft console, as well as a few other notable upgrades.

“Fortnite on Xbox One X pushes the game’s visual settings comparable to what you’d see on a PC set to “Epic” quality,” a message from Epic Games explains.

“This includes better-quality reflections (including screen space reflections being enabled); higher quality post processes like motion blur, anti-aliasing, and depth of field; great draw distances; more detailed foliage; shadow casting enabled on more lights and objects; and higher resolution textures and shadows.

“Content is rendered at 80% of 4K and then upsampled to 4K via a high-quality software upsampler. The HUD is rendered in 4K.”
