Grammys 2018 SNUBS: 5 artists surprisingly IGNORED by voters ahead of awards

It was a hugely successful year for artists of colour, finally addressing past criticisms that Grammy-recognised music has been overwhelmingly white – a debate that hit a peak earlier this year when even Adele herself admitted that Beyonce should have beaten her to Album of the Year.

It’s also been a great result for Kesha, who scored two nods for her acclaimed comeback Rainbow, and Lorde, who managed an Album of the Year nomination for Melodrama.

But who missed out? We take a look here at six artists who didn’t get any love from the Grammys team.

Demi Lovato

Lovato’s 2017 album Tell Me You Love Me has been hailed by many as her best work yet – so why no nods? If her 2015 ballad Stone Cold was enough to garner recognition, surely the new record was too?

Katy Perry

Perry’s Witness album campaign got off to a decent start but subsequent singles failed to replicate her earlier success and the LP’s eventual sales weren’t much to shout about. It’s no surprise that Perry didn’t get any nominations given how the era has panned out, but it’s still notable considering the excitement at the start of it.

Harry Styles

A long shot perhaps, but Styles’ transition from boyband star to fairly respected musician could have been nicely cemented with a Grammy nomination. Sadly it wasn’t to be.

Taylor Swift

Swift did get one nomination – for Fifty Shades Darker track I Don’t Wanna Live Forever – but Reputation’s first two singles, Look What You Made Me Do and …Ready For It? were both absent. Given that the album itself will be eligible this time next year, is this a bad sign for the queen of awards shows?

Carly Rae Jepsen

OK, few people were realistically expecting Jepsen’s Cut To The Feeling to make the cut – especially since her acclaimed album EMOTION missed out. But it’s still a missed opportunity.

Shania Twain

Her comeback this year was hugely anticipated, and first-week sales for Now! were commendable. But there’s no love from the Grammys voters for the country queen’s return.
