Lewis Hamilton: F1 star fires warning to Valtteri Bottas after Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

The Finnish driver pipped his Mercedes team-mate to pole position in the final race of the season and held on for his third win of 2017.

The circuit was a dead-rubber for Hamilton, who had already clinched the Drivers’ Championship with three races to spare.

But the Brit has told Bottas that he will not be being so complacent when the two return for pre-season training after the turn of the year.

“It was great to be a part of another dominant 1-2 for Mercedes, with a very strong win over Ferrari this weekend,” Hamilton said.

“But coming to the subject of next season, it’s going to be back to business!”

However, Hamilton’s comments came with a smile as he also expressed his delight that Bottas ended the year with some glory.

The relationship between the two is a stark contrast to when Nico Rosberg was his partner until he retired at the end of last season.

“Valtteri did a great job this weekend, and also this year,” Hamilton added.

“It was great to have the race we had today.

“I think we each had one mistake today, me with a lock-up in Turn 17, and him in Turn 5, so with that pressure he did exceptionally well.”

Hamilton clinched his fourth championship this season, taking him level with Ferrari rival Sebastian Vettel.

The German rode home in third yesterday to ensure he beat Bottas to second place in the final standings.
