Star Wars 8 The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson gives exciting update on NEW trilogy

The filmmaker hasn’t even released Star Wars: The Last Jedi yet, but he’s already planning a new trilogy of films.

Earlier this month that would be “separate from the episodic Skywalker saga.”

What exactly the new trilogy will cover remains a mystery, but now the director has given some new hints.

Speaking at a fan event in Mexico, he said: “We’re gonna have to see. I’m just in the very beginning of starting to come up with what the new trilogy is going to be.”

Johnson continued: “But I can tell you this, what makes me so excited about it, is the idea of doing a new story on the big canvas of three movies in this world. “There’s just so much potential and I can’t wait to jump into it.”

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy previously said: “We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi. He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career.

“Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

While it won’t be part of the Skywalker saga, Kennedy has also confirmed that Rey, Poe, Finn and BB-8 will be involved future films – could it be this trilogy?

The producer said: “We’re sitting down now and we’re talking about the next ten years of Star Wars and we’re looking at narratively where that might go.

“Future stories beyond Episode 9 with these new characters, Rey, Poe, Finn, BB8… The possibilities are endless.”

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi will be released in UK cinemas on December 14, 2017.
