9: Someone grab the oxygen tank for Elyounoussi! He’s just embarked on a 60-yard solo run only to see his pass roll straight out of play. I think they would have called that a FAIL in 2009…

6: Low-key start here. Basel have been marginally better but there’s no real opportunities to speak of. Pitch appears to be holding up nicely too. No excuses I’m afraid, Jose!

PSG 0-1 CELTIC – DEMBELE

Urm… Celtic are leading against tournament favourites Paris St-Germain… I’m in a state of shock. Dembele netted after just two minutes. They might just regret scoring that early.

3: Owen Hargreaves is keen to remind us that Basel’s stadium hasn’t been a very good hunting ground for British teams in recent years. He’s right, but Basel had better individual stars in the past.

BASEL 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

1: And we’re underway folks. I don’t want to put a downer on tonight’s match, but I’m strongly sensing a 0-0. Hope I’m wrong!

DE GEA IN TROUBLE?

19:43: This is an interesting tweet from reporter David McDonnell in Basel. Have a butchers at this…

He wrote: “Manchester United goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro has just ordered David De Gea, who is not playing tonight and was sat in the dug-out wearing headphones, to go back to the dressing-room. De Gea didn’t look impressed.”

Not really sure why he’s travelled too be honest – he’s not even in the squad!

WHEN DO UNITED QUALIFY?

19:35: After four wins from as many Group A matches, United are all but through given they boast a six-point cushion over second placed Basel.

Jose Mourinho’s men will, though, wrap up the group with a draw tonight. It is a case of when rather than if United make the last 16.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Jason: Fans are crackers! Marcos Rojo is another player who used to get slaughtered every week and now gets respect. Proves how fickle and how quick people judge.

Vaibhav: Feel sad for Luke Shaw, now that even Marcos Rojo is starting games!

Jack: Happily accept a 0-0 and official qualification most important thing is that we end the night with no injuries.C’mon United!!

ELSEWHERE IN EUROPE…

19:25: Obviously we’ll be focusing on events in Basel tonight, but there’s plenty of action going on elsewhere.

The game of the night is undoubtedly Juventus vs Barcelona. The Catalan giants have already qualified but Juve desperately need the points.

Celtic face another difficult test in Paris St-Germain needing a point to qualify for the Europa League.

Oh, and there’s the small matter of Atletico Madrid vs Roma.

THE PITCH…

19:15: Basel had to lay a new surface at St Jakob-Park after Switzerland’s World Cup play-off win against Northern Ireland turned into a mud bath.

Just 10 days after that match, United will line-up against the Swiss champions on a patchy surface that Mourinho and Chris Smalling had a look at on the eve of the game.

Neither seemed overly concerned and Basel head coach Raphael Wicky insisted it was better than it looked. On Saturday his side beat FC Sion 5-1 on it without many issues.
