Ghostbusters director REVEALS why his female-led reboot FAILED

It was supposed to be a big comeback for the iconic franchise, but the female-led reboot failed at the box office.

Ghostbusters may have received mostly positive reviews, however it only made £177 million worldwide on a budget of £111 million.

Now director Paul Feig has spoken out on why his movie didn’t do better.

Speaking at Vulture Festival in Los Angeles, he said: “I think it kind of hampered us a little bit because the movie became so much of a cause.”

The 64-year-old actor said: “It cost too much, and Sony does not like to lose money.

“It made a lot of money around the world, but it just cost too much, making it economically not feasible to do another one. It’s too bad.

“The director, he spent too much on it and he didn’t shoot scenes we suggested to him – several scenes that were going to be needed.

“He said, ‘No, we don’t need them.’ And then we tested the movie and they needed them, and he had to go back — about $30 to $40 million (£23 to £31 million) in reshoots. So he will not be back on the Sony lot anytime soon.”
