Carl Frampton promoter Frank Warren reveals world title fight plan after Garcia win

Frampton, who changed promoters after splitting up with Barry McGuigan in September, came through a bruising battle against Mexican Horacio Garcia on Saturday.

The 10-round bout went to the judges’ scorecards and Frampton won by a unanimous points decision – 98-93, 97-93 and 96-93.

The 30-year-old who only has one career defeat to his name is already looking to the future.

A world title fight is supposedly being lined up next summer at Belfast’s Windsor Park.

And Warren admits his fighter is unlikely to take to the ring again before then.

When asked what the plan is for Frampton, Warren said: “Josh (Warrington) is fighting Lee Selby that is probably going to take place in April.

“We don’t want Carl to not fight for 10 months so he will fight again and then we will be in Windsor Park for a big fight in the summer.

“That is what we promised and that is what we will do.”

Frampton’s trainer Jamie Moore, meanwhile, insisted the former WBA champion will need more in the tank if he’s to beat the likes of Santa Cruz.

He said: “He was OK, but he could do better.

“It was a great fight and it will do him no harm as he has got some tough rounds in and he will need that against someone like Santa Cruz or Mares.”
