BREAKING: Car rams into military police officers in France

The officers, known as gendarmes, had been checking another vehicle when they were struck by the car which sped off, according to local media.

The two victims, believed to be a 20-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, have been seriously injured but they are not thought to be in a life-threatening condition.

Both gendarmes and the motorist who had been stopped at the time of the incident were taken to hospital.

According to La Montagne, the vehicle “zigzagged near the scene, a few minutes before”, suggesting that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol.

The alleged driver was arrested after the offending car was found in the district of Bérangers, Thiers.

The incident took place in Puy-de-Dome, a mountainous region in central France.
