‘They don’t have water?’ Donald Trump sparks bizarre Twitter row after drinking water

US President was addressing White House correspondents about his recent tour of Asia when he paused to joke about the availability of water.

While searching beneath his lectern, the parched President said: “They don’t have water? That’s ok.”

However, Mr Trump was informed by a voice behind the camera there was bottled water on a table to his right.

The row started when Marco Rubio, the Florida Senator Mr Trump mocked for sipping water during a 2013 speech, took to Twitter to poke fun at the President.

In 2016, Mr Trump mocked Mr Rubio while speaking to a campaign crowd in Fort Worth, Texas.

Mr Trump said: “When they put Marco on to refute President Obama’s speech, do you remember that catastrophe?”

‘He’s like this, ‘I need water. Help me, I need water,’” Mr Trump added, pretending to stagger on stage.

“This is on live television. This total choke artist,” he continued as he splashed water across the stage. “Unbelievable”

Enjoying the chance to get his own back on Mr Trump, Mr Rubio tweeted: “Similar, but needs work on his form.

“Has to be done in one single motion and eyes should never leave the camera.

“But, not bad for his first time.”

Mr Trump hailed his recent trip to Asia as a “tremendous success” and also used the press conference to declare: “America is back.”

He added: “The days of the United States being taken advantage of are over.”
