The 10-time world champion, across six different weight categories, hung up his gloves after losing to Manny Pacquiao in 2008.

But nine years on he says he is eager to return to the ring with a big-money bout with UFC’s McGregor.

“You know I’m competitive,” De La Hoya told Golden Boy Radio.

“I still have it in me. I’ve been secretly training, secretly training. I’m faster than ever and stronger than ever.

“I know I can take out Conor McGregor in two rounds. I’ll come back for that fight. Two rounds. Just one more [fight]. I’m calling him out.

“Two rounds, that’s all I need. That’s all I’m going to say. You heard it on Golden Boy Radio. Two rounds, that’s all I need.”

McGregor turned his hand to boxing with a bout against Floyd Mayweather in August.

The Irishman lost by knockout in the 10th round but won the hearts of millions with his spirited performance.

McGregor is yet to decide on his next move, although he is currently contracted to UFC.

But if he wants to get into the ring again, and only a ring, then De La Hoya claims he will be waiting in the wings.

“Let’s get it straight: In the cage, he would freaking destroy me,” De La Hoya added.

“He would freaking destroy me. Only in the ring.

“I’ve been working out for the last five months. [My confidence] is how I feel now from my training.

“I don’t know what it is, but I’ll tell you now that I’ve never felt so good before in my life.”
