Donald Trump demands Russia acts to stop North Korea war as he plays Putin against China

The US President said China is helping to deal with Kim Jong-un’s regime, but extra assistance from the Russians would “have a big impact”.

Speaking aboard Air Force One shortly before his arrival in Hanoi today, Mr Trump described his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping as “a good man” who “wants to do right” when it comes to dealing with the nuclear-armed rogue state.

But he did not make the same remarks about Mr Putin, despite speaking with the Russian leader briefly at the APEC summit in the Vietnamese city of Danang yesterday.

The President told reporters a had “two or three short conversations” with the Russian leader on the sidelines of the major trade event.

And he added they have a “warm feeling for each other”, but made no comment about Russia’s policy on North Korea.

Following their brief meetings, the Russian leader lamented the pair had little time to talk but said the pair had managed to “discuss all we wanted”.

He also played up his personal relationship with Mr Trump, saying their interactions were “highly civil”, before praising him as “an educated person” who is “comfortable to deal with”.
