The evacuation is underway at the Dutch airport’s sorting centre with dozens of employees forced to leave the building.
Officials said the facility was evacuated after a suspicious package was tracked to the building.
Another source said police dogs had been used to highlight the potential danger of the package.
Passengers in the main airport terminal are not believed to have been evacuated.
A spokesman for DHL courier company said the evacuation was “very unusual”.
He said: “There has been an evacuation after tracking a shipment that was not trusted.
“It happened in Schiphol where the sorting of the packages takes place.”
A bomb squad is en route to the packaging centre.
