New York police officer struck by car on Staten Island ‘in serious condition’

A POLICE officer has been struck by a car in Staten Island, New York.

The on-duty officer has been rushed to Richmond University Medical Centre after she suffered severe head trauma.

She remains in a serious condition but is expected to survive.

The policewoman was hit on Richmond Avenue while looking for surveillance video in the area for another case.

She was getting back into her car when the incident occurred. 

The driver stayed at the scene of the crash and the crash appears to be being treated as an accident.
