Local media reported there were several victims after the shooting in Sutherland Springs near San Antonio.
Police descended on the scene and later announced the gunman was dead.
A spokesman confirmed here had been “multiple victims” but did not give any further details.
One witness told American station KSAT that a man walked into First Baptist Church and opened fire at around 11.30am local time.
