Real Madrid 3- Las Palmas 0: Ronaldo impresses as Asensio scores wonder goal

After back-to-back defeats against Girona and Tottenham, Cristiano Ronaldo inspired his side to victory to reduce the gap to league-leaders Barcelona to eight points.

Madrid had the chance to open the scoring inside four minutes when Karim Benzema was played through on goal but Raul Lizoain spread himself well to make the save.

Marco Asensio, who returned to the side in place of Luka Modric, fired a warning shot soon after and Cristiano Ronaldo found the side-netting.

Zidane’s side completely dominated the first half and deservedly got the breakthrough four minutes before half-time when Casemiro headed home a corner at the back-post.

And the second goal arrived 11 minutes after the restart.

As Lizoain came to punch a deep right-wing cross clear, the ball landed at the feet of Asensio who blasted it into the roof of the net from 20-yards out.

Toni Kroos and Ronaldo then went close before the latter crossed for Isco to score 16 minutes from time.

Ronaldo continued to threaten late on as Madrid wrapped up the win, which lifts them up to third in the La Liga table.
