Beauty must-haves! Three of the best Marula oils for face and hair

Charcoal is a current go-to for beauty brands while argan oil has been a staple since it was labelled the next big thing in beauty about eight years ago.

Over the last few months I’ve noticed there is a new kid on the block – marula, something I hadn’t thought about since I honeymooned in Tanzania five years ago.

Back then it was the key ingredient in a creamy liquor foisted on us after dinner (think Baileys for comparison), now it has escaped from the bar keep’s clutches and is being heralded for its moisturising benefits, which are apparently four times greater than argan.

You’ll find it in plenty of face products, including Pure Marula Foaming Cleansing Oil (£26; 020 7350 2020, marula.co.uk), perfect for taking the day away. It’s also cropping up in hair products.

Check out TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Deep Smoothing Mask (£6.10; 0345 070 8090, boots.com), which is a brilliant deep treatment that uses the nut oil along with keratin to restore locks to premium condition, at a pleasingly high- street price.

Finally, I was surprised to spot it has made its way into products for faking a golden glow.

Vita Liberata pHenomenal Marula Dry Oil Self Tan (£39; 0345 070 8090, boots.com) is a dry oil that’s easy to massage in without leaving your skin feeling greasy.

Leave it eight hours and you’ll look like you’re just back from a winter break in the Caribbean.
