New York terror: FBI hunt second Uzbek national over truck attack

An appeal was issued tonight seeking information on Mukhammadzoir Kadirov, a 32-year-old native of Uzbekistan.

They issued a photo this evening showing the bearded man.

The wanted poster read: “Law enforcement officials are seeking the public’s assistance with information about Mukhammadzoir Kadirov in relation to the deadly attack in the Tribeca neighborhood of New York City, New York, on October 31, 2017.”

It came after a rental truck was used to mow down cyclists and pedestrians in Manhattan yesterday before smashing into a school bus.

Today, Uzbek immigrant Sayfullo Saipov was charged with material support to ISIS and causing the deaths of pedestrians.

The US government said the 29-year-old had admitted to being inspired by ISIS videos.

He claimed he had chosen Halloween for the attack because he expected more people on the street and wanted to continue his rampage on Brooklyn Bridge.

Police revealed the suspect had followed online plans from ISIS and left a note praising the militant group.

Investigators said they had interviewed Saipov, who remained hospitalised after an officer shot him in the abdomen, ending the rampage.

They said the man appeared to have been planning his attack for weeks and that investigators recovered notes and knives at the scene.

New York Deputy Police Commissioner John Miller told a news conference: “The gist of the note was that the Islamic State would endure forever

“He appears to have followed almost exactly the instructions that ISIS has put out on its social media channels to its followers.”

The attack was the deadliest in New York City since September 11, 2001, when suicide hijackers crashed two jetliners into the World Trade Centre, killing more than 2,600 people.

Tuesday’s attack also injured 12 people, some critically, in addition to those killed.

Among the dead were a New Jersey Man who worked at the World Trade Centre, a Belgian woman and five Argentinians celebrating a high school reunion.
