Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho begins talks with Benfica president for goalkeeper Mile Svilar

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is known to be a huge admirer of Mile Svilar and has praised his performances for Benfica this season.

And Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha have suggested the United boss has already reached out to Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira.

The report says he took the opportunity to “book” his interest in the 18-year-old following the Red Devils’ 2-0 Champions League win this week.

And they speculate the goalkeeper could be on his way to Old Trafford in the near future due to Mourinho’s history with Benfica.

The 54-year-old has raided the Portuguese club for a number of players in the past, most recently bringing Victor Lindelof to United.

And he has also snapped up Angel Di Maria, David Luiz, Nemanja Matic and Fabio Coentrao while with Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Svilar’s error cost Benfica a draw with United in their clash in Portugal last month.

And, speaking after United’s 1-0 win that night, Mourinho said: “I knew how good he was and I told the players how good he was.

“In free-kicks we knew he risks a lot – only top keepers take risks like he does. The kid was unlucky.

“I think that he deserved a little bit more. He is a phenomenon, amazing. Only great keepers concede goals like these.

“He’s a goalkeeper with huge potential.

“Benfica had better prepare a big suitcase, because someone will pay a lot of money for him in a few years.”

Svilar is under contract with Benfica until June 2022, having joined from Belgian side Anderlecht in August.
