Patriots SHOCK trade: Jimmy Garoppolo to 49ers, Tom Brady their only quarterback

Garoppolo, the Patriots’ 2014 second-round pick, was pivotal for the team when he stepped in for a suspended Tom Brady last season.

There were constant rumours linking him with a trade away in the 2017 offseason but no move materialised.

However, ESPN’s Adam Shefter broke the news that the 49ers had agreed a trade with the Patriots for their back-up quarterback.

He claims trade talks begun Monday morning with talks ending later this evening.

New England will acquire the 49ers’ original second-round pick projected to be around 39-44.

And it suggests the Patriots believe Brady can play well into his 40’s.

The report goes on to say that San Francisco will release quarterback Brian Hoyer.
