Xbox One X release date update: Microsoft issues stock warning – but it’s not all bad news

Microsoft has good news and bad news for fans ahead of the  X release date.

The bad news is that fans could find it difficult to get hold of the console unless they’ve pre-ordered.

Microsoft’s Harvey Eagle told GamesIndustry.biz that there could be stock shortages in the run up to Christmas.

“It was the fastest pre-order of an Xbox that we’ve ever had,” he explained.

“I can’t guarantee that stock will be available in launch week for people to just walk into a store and pick up,” he warned.

“Demand is really high. I’d just encourage people if they want one at launch, to get moving. What I can say is that we will have new stock deliveries into retail each week as we get through to Christmas.”

Fortunately, it’s not all bad news, as Microsoft debunks a rumour of shipping issues ahead of launch.

A report suggested that Xbox One X shipments had been delayed, which would have affected pre-order customers.

But Microsoft claims this isn’t the case, and that the console is still on track for the November 7 release date.

That’s according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who tweeted: “Shipments are fine.”

Microsoft’s impressive new console has a November 7 release date and a £449 price tag in the UK.

The CPU is said to be 30% faster than that of the original Xbox One, while the GPU is 4.6 times more powerful than its predecessor.

Interestingly, the 8GB of memory – which is up from the 5GB found in the original Xbox One – allows the console to process art assets, making it easier to run 4K resolution visuals at higher speeds.
