Xbox One games shock as major exclusive could jump to PS4 or Nintendo Switch

When Microsoft’s Xbox One first launched, it had a set range of original exclusives that were released in its first year.

And fans still look back on some of them very fondly.

One for instance has never got a sequel in the years since but it still found to have a solid fanbase.

And now it appears that something could change that would mean it leaving the Xbox One and perhaps jump ship to something like the PS4 or Nintendo Switch.

Sunset Overdrive was given some high praise by reviewers when it was first launched, some of whom admired its original visual style.

While it may not have boasted an in-depth story-filled adventure, it did leave behind an audience who enjoyed playing it.

And now developers Insomniac Games have commented further on bringing a Sunset Overdrive 2 to the market.

There’s just one thing missing, a major partner.

Studio founder and CEO Tim Price confirmed during a recent Twitch live stream that that developer couldn’t do it alone, and would need someone to fill Microsoft’s shoes.

The tech giant may have had Sunset Overdrive as an Xbox One exclusive, but Insomniac Games still retain rights to the IP.

And this means that something could appear on the likes of the PS4 or Nintendo Switch, if interest was shown.

“Sunset is something that I know a lot of our fans talk about wanting to see the sequel,” Price explained.

“We need a partner for that. That’s a big game; Sunset 2 would be a very large-scope game.”

It doesn’t sound like anything is currently happening with the Sunset franchise and it could well mean that a rival publisher could to try pick up the title.

Microsoft themselves haven’t been overwhelmed with exclusive content this year, with some mainline projects, such as Crackdown 3, being delayed until 2018.

Xbox Studios general manager Shannon Loftis recently spoke more on the subject of exclusives, defending Microsoft’s strategy when compared to other platforms.

“In terms of exclusives, I’ve heard that rumor and I’m a little bit confused because we have a really good lineup this holiday,” Loftis told Game Informer

“We’ve got the most popular game on the planet in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds–the Xbox console is going to be the only place where you can play that.

“We also have Forza Motorsport 7, which every single year reinvents the racing genre and basically owns racing in the video games industry.”
