Star Wars 8 Luke Skywalker wields his LIGHTSABER first look: WHO is he fighting?

Nobody expected Luke to pick up his lightsaber and fight ahgain.

He has been very clear that he no longer believes in the ways of the Jedi and he was expected to demonstrate other new way to use the Force in Episode 8.

So, why is he now shown in action with the Skywalker blue lightsaber ignited? Excitingly, it also looks like he is using other Force powers at the same time.

Is he fighting Rey, Kylo Ren, Snoke or the Praetorian Guards?

WARNING POTENTIAL SPOILERS

The new look shows Luke in a fighting stance, with the lightsaber raised and his other arm flung out.

There appears to be small rocks and stones flying up from the ground at his command. This ties in with the new information from Star Wars Batlefront 2 that Luke can now fully use Force Repulse, Force Rush and Force Push in battle.

The new image is part of official merchandise which means that it is canon.

The image was spotted by ScreenRant after it was uploaded to the  file and image sharing site Imgur with the caption: “Alamo Drafthouse Pint Glass Reveals a HUGE SPOILER about Luke.”

Alama Drafthouse is a hugely influencial US cinema chain and their new piece of merchandise will have been approved by Lucasfilm and Disney.

This potentially means Luke will pick up his old lightsaber and use it in battle at some point during The Last Jedi.

There are two main theories as to when this will happen.

One long-established rumour suggests there will be a major confromtation on Ahch-To pitting Luke and Rey against Kylo Ren and his Knights (or possibly the Praetorians).

A flurry of new hints have raised the even more intriguing idea that Luke and Rey will fight, leading to their split and Rey abandoning her new master.
