What is Trump hiding? JFK expert FURIOUS as hundreds of assassination files are withheld

JFK was shot dead on November 22, 1963, in Texas in a killing which made headlines around the world.

More than 50 years after the tragedy, people across the world were hoping to be allowed to access previously classified information that could lead to new discoveries and finally put some of the conspiracy theories to rest.

President Trump released 2,800 of the remaining files, but cited national security concerns as his reason for blocking the release of others.

Debra Conway, who runs a JFK research organisation, says withholding the files for another six months will put “mistrust” in the US government.

President Trump has withheld some of the remainign JFK files amid fears over national security

Concerns have been repeatedly raised about whether US intelligence agencies knew more than they let on and Trump’s decision to withhold most of the files came after lobbying from government agencies, including the CIA.

Ms Conway said the decision was “damaging” and urged intelligence agencies to tell the truth.

Speaking to Sun Online, Ms Conway said: “I think today’s decision is damaging and I think we’re being played again by the intelligence agencies who waited until the last minute – knowing that they wanted things redacted.

“They have had an awfully long time to have made their case for redactions.

“I would like to know what names, what was the operation, what was the date of these documents, what is it all about.

“If names are still being withheld after all these years it better be about something that was life or death.”

What I can prove is that the shot is impossible and Lee Oswald cannot be placed in that window

She added: “It’s important that we have an accurate version of history.

“It’s also important that we trust our government to tell us the truth.”

In the weeks and months that followed JFK’s death, countless conspiracy theories began cropping up – some more credible than others.

A poll conducted this month revealed 61 per cent of Americans still believe the killing of JFK involved more than one person.

Ms Conway is convinced there was a cover-up.

She said: “I think there was a cover-up because it involved CIA operational activity that could not come to light – it could have been our attempts to get people into Cuba to assassinate Castro that’s my best guess.

The shooting of JFK remains one of the biggest events in US political history

“I don’t know who killed JFK – I have my suspicions but I can’t prove my suspicions – what I can prove is that the shot is impossible and Lee Oswald cannot be placed in that window.

“There’s witnesses that have him in that building but not in that window.

“At the time of the shots he was not on that floor.

“The reason we believe there was more than one shooter is that no one has been able to duplicate that shot with that rifle – the magic bullet shot that went through both the governor and the president.

Many Americans still do not believe Oswald (R) acted alone

“Most people only heard three shots but other people heard more. The rifle capability could not shoot that fast.

“Also there were multiple wounds on the president and the governor – there were more wounds than you would have with three shots.

“That’s when they came up with the signed bullet theory that one bullet went through both men but actually you cannot make that work.”

Ms Conway believes all the documents need to be released for the case to truly be laid to rest.

She said: “They want to go back and redact or black out names. I think the intelligence agencies are doing what they think is best but really all it does is create more and more questions and doubt in people’s minds.

“They want everything to be a secret and they want control but ultimately that hurts us as a country.

“I’m not naive – I realise that there are things that happen in wartime that we can’t know about until years later but for the safety of people involved and operational safety but to have a patsy and to have a false sense of security for 50 years plus – it’s time to tell the truth.

“And if they want to say ‘We did this and we were wrong we shouldn’t have done this, we shouldn’t have covered it up…we had just come out of World War Two and we were afraid and we covered it up’ – that’s all they need to say.

“They should just say here’s the truth and release what they have because by withholding it all that happens is you have one more generation that doesn’t trust the government.”
