Super Mario Odyssey Reviews point to Switch boost as new Nintendo update beckons

Super Mario Odyssey reviews have been coming in thick and fast and are only pointing one way.

Even in a short amount of time of going live, it appears that the new Nintendo Switch games exclusive is on course to be one of the highest-rated titles around.

Gamespot, IGN, GamesBeat and more are giving the new Super Mario adventure perfect scores, boosting it to a metascore of 97.

That puts it into the same league as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which cemented itself earlier this year as the game to beat.

We won’t know for certain just how high Super Mario Odyssey will rank next to the best games ever rated, it’s fair to say that there will be plenty more scores coming our way.

It seems unlikely that Super Mario will be able to beat the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, even so, It’s currently just shy of the top five on Metacritic.

And while fans get to grips with the new adventure, more good news is on the way for Nintendo Switch fans.

It’s been confirmed that super Mario Odyssey will soon support video capture on the hybrid console.

Currently, only the likes of ARMS, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2 support the new feature that launched earlier this month.

It was part of the Nintendo Switch 4.0 patch, which will need to be updated further to include Super Mario Odyssey.

To start capturing footage in a compatible game, players must press and hold down the Capture Button on the left Joy-Con.

Nintendo notes that up to thirty seconds of gameplay prior to pressing the Capture Button will be saved, with the captured videos available within the Album.

To edit or trim a saved gameplay video:

  • Within the HOME Menu, select “Album” > “All Screenshots and Videos.”
  • Select a video to edit, then select “Editing and Posting” > “Trim.”
  • Slide the left marker to adjust the start of the video. Then press “Next” and slide the right marker to adjust where the video ends.
  • When you are done, select “Save.” The edited video will be saved as a new video.

Nintendo have since confirmed that Super Mario Odyssey will be the fifth game to be added to the video capture list, although no release date has been confirmed.

Super Mario Odyssey was released on October 27 and is a Nintendo Switch exclusive which will not be appearing on any other device.
