England rugby squad announcement LIVE: Eddie Jones names Autumn Internationals group

Jones looked as though he might be without captain Dylan Hartley for some if not all of the matches after he was cited for striking Rabah Slimani in the face during Northampton Saints clash with Clermont Auvergne.

However, the skipper was yesterday cleared without further punishment – but his front-row partner Joe Marler was not so lucky.

The prop was handed a three-week suspension for the use of a forearm on Wasps’ Will Rowlands which means he will miss both Australia and Argentina clashes.

No 8 Nathan Hughes also received a ban yesterday – but of just two weeks – meaning he will not miss any of England’s obligations this autumn.

England rugby squad announcement LIVE from London

8.55am: Struggle to disagree with Greenwood. Genge is a ludicrously powerful player and hugely dynamic with it. He could have a big series and with the RWC only two years away, don’t be surprised to see him having an impact at Japan 2019.

Five minutes to go – squad incoming…

8.45am: Looking for some expert opinion on the hooker debate? Will Greenwood may not have played front row but he did win a Rugby World Cup so I’ll listen to what he has to say.

“[Jones] will be chuffed to have his captain,” Greenwood told Sky Sports.

“And he’ll be over the moon to continue the Hartley/George debate and have them both available.

“I think we might also see a bit of Tom Dunn, the Bath hooker, being introduced into that squad.

“With Marler, Ellis Genge was wonderful for Leicester Tigers against Castres at the weekend so we could see him get a run out alongside one of the world’s finest looseheads in Mako Vunipola.

“I think it’s one of those where it’s a disappointment for Marler but Eddie and the organisation just roll on.

“You’re either with us or you’re not.”

8.30am: It was a busy day for Eddie Jones yesterday as he eagerly awaited news from the European citing commissioner.

He will have been thankful that Dylan Hartley did not add to his year of bans – although doing so would have taken away his selection headache at hooker. Saracens’ Jamie George is widely regarded as England’s No 1 man for the No 2 shirt but Jones has stuck with his skipper repeatedly, even if only for 55 or 60 minutes of the match.

Hughes would have been an even bigger miss given that bulldozer Billy Vunipola is already out with a knee injury. England are blessed with a number of ball-carriers in the position but the impact of either player cannot be understated, especially against a reinvigorated Australia side.

Anyway, we await the names with bated breath – the squad is out at 9am and we’ll hear from Mr Jones himself at 9.30am.
