Arsenal 2 – Norwich 1 (AET): Super sub Eddie Nketiah rescues lucky Gunners

Arsene Wenger made 11 changes to his Arsenal line-up, handing a debut to Matt Macey in goal.

But the home side made a confident to the match, bossing possession and trying to break down the Norwich defence.

Rob Holding had the first clear chance of the night when from a Theo Walcott corner the defender’s header was superbly saved by Angus Gunn.

Norwich then stunned the Emirates when James Maddison threaded a through ball to Jacob Murphy, who burst through and linked the ball over the onrushing Macey and into the net.

Arsenal went on the attack but they were nearly caught out again when Nelson Oliveira cut onto his right foot and curled a shot towards the bottom corner but Macey made a fine save.

The Gunners started the second half on the front foot but could have went down to ten men when Oliveira was tripped by Mohamed Elneny as he ran towards goal.

Oliveira, Murphy and Mario Vrancic had chances to extend Norwich’s lead but failed to hit the target.

And they were left to rue that profligacy when Eddie Nketiah, who had been on less than 30 seconds, tapped in Coquelin’s flick-on from a corner.

Jack Wilshere nearly grabbed a late winner but Gunn stood big.

But in extra time, Nketiah sealed a fairytale cameo by leaping highest in the box to head home in the 96th minute from a corner.
