HUDDERSFIELD TEMPLATE…

19:30: Swansea aim to seize on Manchester United’s defensive problems tonight, and have studied Saturday’s match at the John Smith’s Stadium for inspiration.

United suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield on Saturday – their first in the Premier League this season – when the Terriers exposed a hastily-assembled centre-back partnership.

And Clement senses an opportunity.

He said: “We’ve looked at the Huddersfield game and I’ve spoken about that with the players. I’ve told them any team can be vulnerable at any moment, and we’ve got to make sure we do our bit right.

“They can’t make massive changes because they’ve got injury issues. But we know that whoever they put on the pitch they’re going to be good.”

“WE ARE TALKING FACTS”

19:27: Arsenal have won 26 of their last 29 League Cup home games against sides from a lower division.

ELSEWHERE IN THE CUP

19:25: Although we’re focusing on events at the Liberty tonight, we’ll be keeping you updated with the goals as they go in elsewhere.

The rest of the fixtures look something like this;

Arsenal vs Norwich, Bournemouth vs Middlesbrough, Bristol City vs Crystal Palace, Leicester vs Leeds, Manchester City vs Wolves.

Premier League clean sweep? It pays 17/1… Not that I’ve won a bet since the summer of ’08.

GIGGS DECLARES INTEREST

19:20: Anyone else think this is a touch presumptuous? I’ve declared my interest but nobody seems to be taking me seriously.

Anyway, this is the story that Former Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs is interested in the Leicester and Everton jobs.

Both Premier League positions are vacant after Leicester sacked Craig Shakespeare last week and the Toffees fired Ronald Koeman for their poor start to the season yesterday.

Giggs is looking to get into management following his stint as Louis van Gaal’s number two at Old Trafford, having been interviewed for the job at Swansea last season, and fancies either role.

Should either of them gamble on Giggs? Let me know!

Kev: Expecting a positive result tonight. Jose Mourinho will want a big performance after the Huddersfield result.

Jason: How is Luke Shaw ever going to prove himself if Jose Mourinho won’t even trust him against Swansea’s 2nd XI?

Joel: Nice to see Romero back and Rashford up front. Hope we play well and go to the next round. Big performance needed. Come on United!

TEAM NEWS – ARSENAL

19:00: It wouldn’t be the League Cup without Arsene Wenger making a million changes.

And true to form, that’s exactly what he’s done.

The Frenchman has made 11 changes from the team who destroyed Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Olivier Giroud, fresh from his stunning overhead kick, starts ahead of Alexandre Lacazette in attack with Alex Iwobi and Theo Walcott his supporting staff.

Jack Wilshere is once again on the team sheet, as is Matt Macey, who makes his Arsenal debut as back-up goalkeeper in the absence of David Ospina.

Luke Shaw makes the bench, alongside first-team regulars Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Paul Clement has made eight changes to his starting XI with £11million summer arrival Roque Mesa starting in attack.

18:40: Just a few minutes until those starting XI’s are revealed folks. Stay tuned because I believe Jose has made a raft of changes.

WHAT IS CARABAO?

18:35: After some extensive Googling, and a few computer-related tantrums, I can reveal that Carabao is an energy drink.

It’s Thailand’s second most popular energy drink, behind another beverage called M-150 (which sounds like a ballistic missile) and tastes like Calpol.

Apparently it’s on sale in England although I’ve never bought it during my 3am drunken raids.

EVENING

18:30: Welcome to our LIVE coverage of Swansea vs Manchester United from the Liberty Stadium.

It’s Carabao Cup night, which means all over the world people will be asking two questions.

Firstly, what the hell is a Carabao?

And secondly, which fringe players will impress tonight?

I’m happy to say that I have the answers, and plenty more irrelevant information to share with you over the next few hours.

Let’s get going!

SWANSEA vs MANCHESTER UNITED – PREVIEW

Roque Mesa will start Swansea’s Carabao Cup tie at home to Manchester United tonight.

Mesa has started only three times since his £11million summer move from Las Palmas, but Swansea head coach Paul Clement confirmed that the midfielder will line up against United.

Renato Sanches (thigh) is unavailable after joining Wilfried Bony (hamstring) and Kyle Bartley on the casualty list, while goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is set to be rested.

Manchester United Victor Lindelof will be hoping his display against Huddersfield does not cost him a starting place tonight.

Lindelof did not impress after coming on for the injured Phil Jones during Saturday’s defeat and Jose Mourinho could choose to look at Axel Tuanzebe.

Other changes are likely for the last-16 match, with Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay, Matteo Darmian, Sergio Romero and Daley Blind all under consideration.

Swansea provisional squad: Nordfeldt, Rangel, van der Hoorn, Mawson, Olsson, Mesa, Ki, Clucas, Dyer, Ayew, Abraham, Mulder, Naughton, Fernandez, Britton, Carroll, Narsingh, Fulton, Routledge, McBurnie.

Manchester United provisional squad: De Gea, Romero, Pereira, Valencia, Darmian, Tuanzebe, Lindelof, Smalling, Blind, Shaw, Young, Matic, Herrera, McTominay, Mata, Lingard, Mkhitaryan, Lukaku, Rashford, Martial.
