Nintendo Switch Virtual Console UPDATE: Is this proof that Gamecube games are coming?

Virtual Console support could be coming soon, and Gamecube support looks almost certain.

Nintendo has just released a new update that adds Gamecube controller support for the Switch.

The recently released update 4.0.0 lets users use classic Gamecube controllers via USB.

According to Eurogamer, controllers show up as USB, but it’s only Gamecube controllers that are supported.

There’s even footage of fans using them to play new releases such as Fire Emblem.

This will almost certainly be followed by Gamecube games on the Virtual Console when it launches next year.

Nintendo Switch system update 4.0.0 is also good news for fans of Super Mario Odyssey.

Among other things, the latest Nintendo Switch update adds eShop pre-orders, video capture and save transfers.

There’s even a Super Mario Odyssey surprise or two hidden within the profile menu.

With the release of Super Mario Odyssey just a few weeks away, video capture is a particularly exciting addition.

It’s currently not available in all Nintendo Switch games, just first party exclusives like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, ARMS, Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Another useful feature is the ability to pre-order games from the Nintendo eShop.

Not only does this ensure you receive the game the moment it comes out, but it also lets you check the prices ahead of release.

Elsewhere, the profile menu features a whole host of Super Mario Odyssey icons that are available for free.

This includes Mario and Cappy, as well as capped versions of in-game enemies like Bullet Bills, Goombas and the T-rex.

You can download update 4.0.0 by visiting the system section from the settings menu.
