PUBG update: Battlegrounds creator has double dose of good news for Xbox One owners

PUBG creator Brendan ‘PlayerUnknown’ Greene has a double dose of good news for Xbox One owners.

With the Xbox One release date inbound, the Battlegrounds creator told IGN that the multiplayer shooter is here to stay.

Greene said that he sees PUBG as a service, which means it will continue to expand and evolve over time – similar to games like Destiny and Overwatch.

“We’re building this game as a service,” Greene said, before revealing that PUBG will also be released at retail.

“We’ll still have the boxed copy that you buy,” he continued. “We still want to polish and refine. Add more maps, add more assets, and continually refine the gameplay and optimise as we go forward.”

The silver lining for PS4 owners is that developer Bluehole should have released new maps and more by the time the PlayStation launch rolls around.

The news comes as PUBG developer Bluehole makes another big change in preparation for the Xbox One release date and full PC launch.

The Battlegrounds developer has finally reset the leaderboards, more than a week after originally planned.

The new leaderboard season was scheduled to kick off on October 11, but the popularity of the game made it impossible to make the change without causing major server issues.

The leaderboard reset has now gone live, although Bluehole has warned that there may be a period of instability while the update rolls out.

And it’s not the only big change Bluehole has made in the run up to release, as Squad FPP mode (first-person perspective) comes to new regions.

Bluehole announced the news on Twitter, alongside good server news for players in Japan and Korea.

“New leaderboard season is started! KR/JP server and SQUAD FPP mode for SA, SEA, OCE server is added as well,” reads the tweet. “See you on the battlegrounds!”

Players experiencing offline server issues are advised to reconnect the game.
