Huddersfield vs Man Utd: Victor Lindelof slammed by Sky Sports pundit for ‘shocking’ error

Lindelof came on as a first-half substitute at the John Smith’s Stadium for the injured Phil Jones.

Within five minutes Huddersfield were in front through Aaron Mooy and the hosts were in dreamland when Laurent Depoitre doubled the advantage soon after.

Goalkeeper Jonas Lossl will be credited with the assist, after his goal kick was horribly misjudged by summer-signing Lindelof and Depoitre rounded David de Gea.

Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday presenter Jeff Stelling joked United boss Jose Mourinho should have gone into the game with a more defensive approach, as they did against Liverpool last Saturday.

“Jose take my advice, you should have parked the bus today,” he said when introducing the second goal.

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson went onto describe what had happened, saying: “It’s 2-0 and it’s Depoitre who’s scored Jeff. But what a bad goal.

“The keeper has a goal kick, kicks it out of his hands.

“Big high-kick, Lindelof tries to head it, he misses it completely.

“Depoitre goes in, goes round the keeper, and just slides it into the net. 2-0. Can Huddersfield believe this Jeff?”

Stelling then revealed a stat that would have United fans shaking their heads.

“They had only scored one in their previous seven and they’ve scored two in the first 33 minutes against Manchester United,” he explained.

“Laurent Depoitre, but shocking defending from Lindelof having just come on as a substitute.”
