62: Very attacking look to Everton’s side now. Tom Davies and Gyfli Sigurdsson are the holding midfielders, and they’re not exactly sitting deep. Fekir off injured for Ferrj.

60: Looks like Morgan Schneiderlin has paid the price for that last-ditch challenge. He’s off with Gylfi Sigurdsson replacing him.

57: Everton’s search for an equaliser is leaving them vulnerable. Maolida receives the ball with only Jordan Pickford to beat after Davies was too casual, but Schneiderlin appears from nowhere to block.

Lookman booked for a nasty challenge on Marcal. Too keen methinks.

55: Lyon players going down left, right and centre trying to slow the game down. It’s really stoking the Everton fans into action. They want this tonight because it really could be the turning point.

52: Interesting change. Vlasic is now playing in the No.10 role with Lookman and Mirallas either side of him. Everton with pace? I don’t believe you.

48: I’ve got a sneaky feeling this is going to turn into the Ademola Lookman show! The youngster immediately makes an impact after getting into a good position before firing a knock-down at Lopes.

EVERTON 0-1 LYON

45: It’s been confirmed folks. Ademola Lookman is on for Davy Klaassen, who’s done himself no favours tonight.

That change even got a “hallelujah” from Martin Keown.

HT: OH. MY. WORD! I think I can see Ademola Lookman warming up. The talented youngster grabbed a great goal against Manchester City last season, and barely been seen since.

HT: Some mixed feelings from the Everton supporters tonight. We all know they’ve been through the ringer lately, but you can’t say Ronald Koeman’s side have put in a shift. Not sure I’ve ever seen Kevin Mirallas run as much as this!

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Daniel: Ronald Koeman has to go, how long are we going to let this go on…

Sean: At least there was some effort! Same won’t be said about our movement at throw-ins.

Das: Moshiri needs to show that same ruthless streak he fired Martinez with. This team is playing worse than the Martinez team.

EVERTON 0-1 LYON

HT: Everton down, but not entirely out. Ronald Koeman’s side were able to build some serious momentum towards the break, but nobody could stick it past Lopes.

One thing’s for certain – there’s more goals in this one!

44: Depay is through on goal… saved! The Former Manchester United winger has a golden opportunity to double Lyon’s lead after skinning Schneiderlin, but Pickford read it and tipped it away.

42: Lyon lucky to escape! Guedes Filho plays an abysmal cross field pass that’s intercepted by Klaassen, who forces a great low save from Lopes.

39: One step forward, two steps back. Schneiderlin gives away a sloppy free-kick just outside the area. Fakir steps up… post! The strike took a deflection off Davies and rattled against the woodwork.

38: Everton have started to crank the pressure up over the last five minutes or so. Calvert-Lewin was alert to a sloppy backpass but Diakhaby recovers.

35: Nice shift from Mirallas almost yields a goal but his effort is blocked by the keepers legs. The Toffees seeing more of the ball but Lyon look seriously threatening on the break.

32: It’s pouring it down in Merseyside. It was before the game too actually, so why on earth were Everton watering the pitch before the game?

29: The ball drops nicely for Schneiderlin, but the Frenchman drags an effort wide from around 20-yards out.

26: Mikel Arteta is in the house tonight folks. Looks like he’s taken some fashion tips from Mr Guardiola with smart black turtle neck on. Don’t suppose he’s brought his boots?

24: Mirallas cuts inside and fires an effort narrowly wide. Few chances so far as the Blues look to respond.

23: When it rains, it pours. Atalanta are beating APOEL in the other game in Group E which leaves Everton bottom, four points behind Lyon.

20: Tom Davies looks to take the game by the scruff of the neck, but ignores Vlasic’s timely run. Lyon clear.

18: Davy Klassen not inspiring much confidence in the Everton ranks. He’s given away possession numerous times already.

15: Lyon playing like a side who want to make the final when it’s held in their stadium, the Stade de Lyon, on May 16. Everton playing like…

12: Ashley Williams! The The centre-back, who’s been having a nightmare recently, produces a cracking last-ditch slide tackle to nick the ball away from Memphis Depay. Would have been 2-0.

9: I know we’re not allowed to say the word character around Merseyside, mainly due to former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, but Everton really need to dig deep against a top-notch side now.

EVERTON 0-1 LYON – FEKIR

6: In a game Everton can simply not afford to lose, they’re behind within six minutes…

Mason Holgate is the culprit with an atrociously mistimed tackle on Marcal. Fakir places it down and slams it into the bottom right-hand corner.

PENALTY TO LYON

5: Memphis Depay is wearing gloves. I’ll let you decide what to do with that piece of information. Few groans around a silent Goodison Park. This isn’t looking too good for the Toffees.

3: I notice Ronald Koeman is growing himself a beard. He’ll be tearing it out if Ashley Williams and Jordan Pickford get mixed up again. The Wales defender just manages to clear.

EVERTON 0-0 LYON

1: And we’re off folks! It’s looking quite sparse around Goodison Park this evening, and I can’t blame them.

20:00: Evening folks, I’m afraid there’s no time for any of my legendary  witty build-up.

I’ve just rushed over from the Arsenal match, so I’ve just tuned in to see Ashley Williams lead the side out.

Let’s get this show on the road!

NO SIGN OF ROONEY!

19:00: Here’s tonight’s starting XI folks. Wayne Rooney looks to have been rested because he’s not in the match day squad!

Everton XI: Pickford, Holgate, Williams, Keane, Martina, Schneiderlin, Davies, Klaasen, Mirallas, Vlasic, Calvert-Lewin.

Lyon: Lopes, Marcal, Diakhaby, Marcelo, Tete, Aouar, Tousart, Depay, Fekir, Traore; Maolida.

EVERTON TEAM NEWS

18:30: Jonjoe Kenny is doubt for Everton’s Europa League tie with Lyon while midfielder James McCarthy is still not ready to return.

Young English defender Kenny sustained a problem on international duty and only trained yesterday for the first time, and knee-injury victim McCarthy, who played 45 minutes for the development squad on Tuesday, could come into contention for the visit of Arsenal at the weekend.

The Toffees remain without Seamus Coleman (broken leg), Ramiro Funes Mori (knee), Ross Barkley (hamstring) and Yannick Bolasie (knee), while forward Oumar Niasse is ineligible to play in the Europa League as he was not included in the initial squad.

Everton provisional squad: Pickford, Stekelenburg, Williams, Keane, Jagielka, Holgate, Martina, Kenny, Baines, Schneiderlin, Gueye, Besic, Klaassen, Sigurdsson, Rooney, Davies, Vlasic, Lookman, Mirallas, Sandro, Calvert-Lewin.
