WORLD WAR 3 READY: Pictures show US warships edging close to North Korea to taunt Kim

American forces joined with South Korean vessels to patrol seas near the peninsula in a bid to intimidate the North Korean despot intent on pushing the world to the brink of nuclear war.

Photos show the huge USS Ronald Reagan alongside other ships from the South Korean navy, steaming through the water in a clear show of force.

The nuclear-powered supercarrier measures more than 1,000 feet in length and can travel at speeds of up to 30 knots.

It can carry 90 aircraft and 3,2000 sailors.

regularly threatens to destroy the , South Korea and Japan in retaliation for what is sees as highly-provocative exercises.

Despot Kim Jong-un claims these joint exercises are preparation for an invasion of North Korea while the Western forces claim they are merely responding to hermit state threats.

This week several US warships including the USS Ronald Reagan have taken part in exercises in the East Sea.

It is part of a week-long Maritime Counter Special Operations Exercise, which will also take place in the Yellow Sea.

Also docked in a South Korean dock is the nuclear-powered submarine the USS Michigan.

This vessel boats silos for mini-submarines, which are used in covert missions. This has sparked rumours of an assassination attempt on Kim.

Specialist US Navy Seals are currently believed to be in the South Korean port of Busan, according to a Seoul-based news agency.

These mini submarines could discreetly transport a unit of trained killers into enemy territory to carry out assassinations – in this case, up the Taedong River to Pyongyang to kill Kim.

North Korea has hit out at the exercises, claiming they are part of a “sinister scenario”.

A propaganda newspaper said: “The Trump administration of the US is reported to mull introducing smaller tactical nuclear weapons in a bid to destroy the nuclear facilities of the DPRK.

“What matters is that such scheme is under consideration when the US is going to stage a high-intensity joint drill in the East Sea of Korea with mobilisation of a strike group.

“This sheds light on the sinister scenario to provoke a nuclear war by all means so as to totally destroy the DPRK and exterminate the population of the north.”

Yonhap News revealed: “A unit of US special forces tasked with carrying out ‘decapitation’ operations is aboard a nuclear-powered submarine in the group, according to a defence source.”
