Pokemon Go news: Halloween event shock reveal, Mewtwo EX Raid update, Gen 3 buildup

More Pokemon Go updates are set to arrive very soon that are going to change the game for a while.

A new Pokemon Go Halloween event is being planned by Niantic, of which new details have been revealed.

While dataminers have already confirmed the launch of the new Gen 3 Pokemon, others have found something a little more surprising.

Not only will fans get to earn some new bonuses, but some have also spotted a reference to another Ghost Type Pokemon from a later generation hidden within the image.

The player avatar featured in the picture is wearing a Mimikyu hat, which suggests the Generation 7 Pokemon may make an appearance in some form.

It’s likely players will be able to equip their own Mimikyu hats, similar to the Magikarp hat that was introduced during the Water Festival.

Another Niantic leak appears to have confirmed the inclusion of another hat-clad Pikachu for Halloween.

A leaked App Store image posted online features Pikachu in a witch’s hat. Players will presumably be able to capture this Pikachu variant for the duration of the Halloween 2017 event.

Fortunately, Pikachu is pictured alongside a selection of Gen 1, Gen 2 and Gen 3 Ghost Pokemon, which means the rumours of a Gen 3 launch were true.

The picture includes Duskull and Sableye, but fans can also expect the likes of Shuppet, Banette and Dusclops.

It’s unclear if the Halloween 2017 event will coincide with the release of additional Gen 3 Pokemon, or if they’re being saved for a future release.

Dataminers recently found evidence of Gen 3 Pokemon, with the only thing missing being the Gen 3 sound files needed to replicate the new Pokemon.

However, these were discovered in the most recent Pokemon Go update, as well as the spooky Lavender Town theme from Pokemon Red and Blue.

There’s also evidence to suggest that a new Halloween-themed map display may appear at night.

In other Pokemon related news, it appears that the recently launched Pokemon EX Raids, featuring Mewtwo, have been given a big boost.

New invites for a wave of EX Raids occurring on October 20 have been sent out to Trainers.

These new Raids are being held at both Sponsored and unsponsored Gyms worldwide.

It looks like Niantic are set to test the biggest amount of EX Raids yet, although they will differ from earlier ones.

This time round, fans will only have around 45 minutes to complete what they need to, a drop in the amount time that has been seen in earlier events.

“We have collected some valuable early feedback on the new EX Raid Battle feature and will look to further test and hone the experience through the feedback of the dedicated global Trainer community,” Niantic explains.

“During the field test, we’ll be making periodic adjustments to EX Raid eligibility requirements, frequency, times, locations, and durations with the goal of making the EX Raid Battle feature engaging, rewarding, and most importantly, fun for Trainers who regularly participate in Raid Battles.”
